Meetings in physical environments have been reduced to a minimum due to Covid 19 pandemic that caused hundreds of thousands of deaths all around the World. The ways we carry out our jobs have changed and, in this process, the use of digital data, especially digital twin data that are digital copies of the physical environment, has begun to increase.

Automatization of the processing of the data obtained and ability to access data 24/7 through cloud-mediation and to share them easily enable many industries to use these data easily with developing software and hardware technologies.

In digital twin production, “Reality capture”, which a method to transfer the physical environment to digital environment as a photorealistic point cloud or a model, is a technique with which we can transform the data obtained from the environment to 3-dimensional and meaningful visual data that can be used by different disciplines interactively.

To sum up briefly, several different methods are used in transferring the physical environment to digital media. These are;

Laser scanning: This is a non-contact method that digitalizes physical objects with the help of laser light.

Classical Photogrammetry: This is a method that enables the objects to be transferred to digital environment with the help of their photos taken from different points.

Digital Photogrammetry: This is a method that has become popular during the past few years and that produces the 3-dimensional digital model by processing the photographs taken from the same point with different angles using machine learning methods.  

In the present work that we completed for Saint Antoine Church, by using the 3-dimensional data, an engaging tour with walkthrough experience can be done in the environment. By transferring these data obtained to VR supported platforms, virtual tours with different scenarios in the environment are made possible.

In addition to this, measurements can be done online without a need for any additional program, and schematic and 2D floor plans can be produced.

Besides these, documents such as photographs-videos-pdf can easily be reached from the same environment through the smart labels added to the platform and the web traffic data of the environment of the platform can be accessed.

In Architectural, Engineering and Construction industries, it enables the visual follow-up of the construction processes of buildings, the advance of a common language between the field and the office on photorealistic digital twin models taken from the field in complex construction processes and taking measurements easily when needed.
